LEEDS MODELS CONTINUING
'Leeds Models Continuing' is the more accurate name now given to our spares supply/repairs/restoration activity. This is supported by a large, (but not comprehensive), stock of both original used and unused LMC parts for locomotives, coaches, and wagons. This stock is complimented by newly manufactured parts using either original LMC patterns or re-engineered tools and dies following the original as closely as possible, but using brass or white metal instead of ‘Newalloy’ and other pressure die cast zinc alloys.
LMC/STEDMAN MODELS IN ORIGINAL OR RESTORED CONDITION
Assistance is available to those seeking to dispose of their Leeds/Stedman models. Models wanted to complete or improve the archive collection may be purchased outright. For models currently available see Sales.
LMC/STEDMAN PARTS, LITHOGRAPHS, CATALOGUES ETC
We are willing to purchase at a fair price unwanted LMC/Stedman parts and lithographs which may be used in reconstruction of models, or assist other enthusiasts to carry out their own repairs. Photocopies of most coach and wagon lithographs are available from the archive collection. Catalogues are offered when available on the Sales Page. Photocopies of catalogues, from 1915–1966, either specific pages or the whole, may be provided on request at commercial copying rates.

SPARES FOR THE 1935 SERIES MOTORS AND MECHANISM
The Series 2 mechanism had zinc die cast frames, frame spacers and front bearing block. Many of these have suffered from swelling, cracking and ultimate disintegration. Pre 1948 motors had a horseshoe magnet which over time may need remagnetising. Later motors had a bar magnet. The back bearing plate of bar magnet motors was another die-casting which also suffered similarly to other die cast parts. The following replacements are available:
Frames, stainless steel with brass bushed driving wheel holes

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF LMC ELECTRIC MOTORS
In many cases the problem with LMC motors proves to be over oiling. It is not necessary to oil motor commutators, the copper carbon brushes are self lubricating. If oil reaches the commutator from gears and bearings, it will form a paste with the graphite from the brushes and this will enter the commutator slots and cause a short circuit, and sluggish running. This oily paste seeps into the brush housing and prevents the brushes from easy movement under pressure from the plunger spring, giving problems with smooth operation, starting, and slow running. Avoid excessive oiling of gears and bearings. Keep the commutator clean by wiping with a soft rag, but not emery or glass paper. The brush housing can be cleaned through using cotton wool “buds” or similar, and the brushes wiped clean on absorbent paper before refitting. If brushes do not slide freely in the carriers they may require slight reduction of thickness and width achieved by sliding one wide and one narrow face across fine emery paper. After this operation the affected corners will need to be re-chamfered. Excessive oiling may also loosen the commutator on the motor shaft. Ensure that the commutator slots are exactly aligned with the topmost central point of the armature, except in the case of motor bogies where the slots must line up with the lowest central point of the armature windings. Loose commutators may be re-set using superglue or similar.

The bogies are also supplied in kit form minus wheels, requiring painting and assembly with 4 x 9BA screws (supplied). Price per kit is £15.00.
These 8ft wheelbase cast bogies were originally introduced to run under the LMC range of Bakelite coaches, but were also used on the last supplied LMS litho coaches, the post 1946 ‘Rigid-litho’ LMS coach, the Pullman Coaches and ‘Nettle’ the Sentinel-Cammel rail car.
As a kit the bogies are supplied without wheels, unpainted but otherwise ready to assemble. The frame end blocks are tapped 9BA and four 9BA screws are supplied in the kit, When assembled the stretchers should not be screwed up tightly to the sideframes so that a small amount of movement can allow for the compensating action when running. Satin finish black paint must closely reproduces the original appearance of these units.

NEW Southern Railway Coach lithographs. The original LMC lithograph masters were lost in the fire of 1932 and never reproduced. Now the Leeds Stedman Trust in collaboration with Bug Print, Tasmania, is pleased to offer but from very limited stock litho sets for the 12 inch standard LMC coaches. The individual coach types have been re-mastered to be very close in appearance to the LMC originals, - the photo shows the mainline (corridor) coach and brake coach. Sets are also available for the suburban coach and brake end. Priced at £12.00 per coach set, post extra, these new lithos are sure to please SR enthusiasts, or anyone wishing to renovate their 'tattered' old stock.
There a very few of the original LMC lithos which are not held as papers in the Trust archive. One of these is the NE bogie box van. Introduced by Rex Stedman in 1929, it was missing from catalogues from 1946 onwards. Several attempts have been made to reproduce the original papers but none until now has succeeded in creating the ‘right look’. Most recently and under the critical eye of David Cooke, Wessex Transfers in Tasmania have finally come up with a very fine reproduction indeed. £10.00 per van set
Rob Horton of Wessex Transfers has once again excelled in producing re-mastered lithographs of the LMC GWR panelled coaches for the 'Launceston Model Company’ - conveniently LMC = this Tasmanian producer of high quality heritage graphics spent many months under the constant scrutiny of local LMC enthusiast David Cooke before the artwork was ready to print.
Two litho sets are available, the suburban coach and the suburban brake coach, replicating the LMC originals which were first released in 1927. In 1935 LMC put out a new set of lithographs for the GWR coaches, The cause of the change was the 1932 fire which either burned or water damaged much of the stock including the panelled coach lithos. The new patterns featured the ‘button’ GWR crest rather than the coats of arms of London and Bristol and the full coat of arms of the company. These have been faithfully reproduced on the re-mastered papers, as shown here. Papers are £12.00 per coach set, stocks are limited.
CENTENNIEL WAGON
To mark the 100 years from the founding of the Leeds Model Company, our friends in Australia produced this set of lithos for the standard LMC 7 plank wagon. These remain available at £8.00 per sheet.
